Basically this is Google’s attempt to develop a small-footprint control system for netbooks running web-based apps. The core plumbing is Linux and the UI is a variant of the Chrome browser. Whether or not this will find large-scale mindshare won’t be determined for quite awhile. The official release will probably be a year from now. But it is an interesting concept and I wanted to get my arms around it. If it does become popular then it will be something that user assistance professionals will need to understand in order to effectively support their apps.
This is the newest kid on the block and a lot people are taking notice of P2PTV. How can you not notice it, when the makers of Skype have taken this on as their next project? Joostt is just one of the players in and increasingly competitive field. P2PTV works on the same principles as Bittorrent. The big difference is that P2PTV does not take packets of data in a random order. Instead P2PTV picks up all of the parts in sequence. What this means, for the viewer, is that you are able to watch the show as you download. You then share the information along to the next person or people watching the program, seeding as you would for a normal best torrent Site.
Check Limewire / Morpheus / Torrent. I only have these three but there are still some other software related to these. If you’re not using any one of them, better log out of it. Users downloading stuff from the net might be coming from your pc so that can also be a bandwidth issue. This is also a golden opportunity for hackers to access your computer configuration without you knowing it.
Luckily these days there are some good alternatives to Torrent or P2P sites. There are now actually a few reputable sites where you can download free games and movies for your Iphone all day long. It’s a real relief to not have to rely on shady P2P sites any longer. The way it works is that there will be an initial registration fee, and once you pay that you can download as much as you like. The p2p sites have open servers and anyone can upload a file with a label of a popular song. You don’t know you have a bad file until it is too late. The new sites are secure and you will never download a bad or incomplete file.
